Jorge Lorenzo, three-time MotoGP world champion (2010, 2012, and 2015), predicted in March that Marc Márquez could end up in the official Ducati team. In an interview with ‘Mundo Deportivo’, Lorenzo analyzed Márquez’s future and the importance of his relationship with Gigi Dall’Igna, the general director of Ducati Corse.
“The politics and the relationship that Marc Márquez has with Ducati and Gigi Dall’Igna will be very important. Gigi is happy with Márquez joining Gresini; he wants to have the best riders in his ranks. If Márquez continues to perform well, Dall’Igna and Ducati will support him this year and will want him to stay with the brand in the future”, stated Jorge Lorenzo.

Lorenzo also added “from the outside, it seemed that Ducati was not particularly excited about Márquez joining Gresini. I don’t think that’s the case with Dall’Igna. He seems to be the most supportive. When they see that Marc is doing very well with Ducati and commits to staying with the factory, they will support him. Having Marc Márquez guarantees a rider who fights for championships”.
Marc Márquez to the Official Ducati Team
When asked if the eight-time world champion could join the official Ducati team starting in the 2025 season, Jorge Lorenzo argued, “if I were Ducati, and Márquez agreed, I would want to have Marc in my team for a long time”. He also added “I wouldn’t rule out seeing Marc Márquez dressed in the official Ducati red. Ducati has the advantage of having eight very fast riders and can choose which two they want for the official team for 2025 and beyond”.
Lorenzo’s comments were made in March. Three months later, Ducati and Marc Márquez announced that the ’93’ would be Pecco Bagnaia’s teammate for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
